Spring 2011 Update and NEWS
What a strange season! Too much rain and then NEARLY too little - saved by 50 mms late September. Now all the sheep are getting fat and spring looks assured.
Lambing has gone well - 100% lambs marked. This augurs well for ram selection January 2013.
This season's rams will become available in early February 2012.
Centre Plus continues to show its strong influence on the breeding program (www.centreplus.com.au)
There will be excellent Ram Hoggets available in early 2012. Also surplus Ewe Hoggets and cfa ewes.
FEEL FREE to come and inspect our flock at any time.
Fleece Wool for hoggets measured 17.4 microns, and for adult ewes was 18.3 microns.
This wool has met a strong market in spite or the high Aussie Dollar.
Due to the strength of the sheep market my intention is to keep some wethers going forward.
Mutton and wool still look a very sound combination
Mulesing and alternative strategies continue to plague the industry and the advantages of plain bodied sheep become more apparent.
Regarding OJD: Our policy is to continue to vaccinate all lambs with GUDAIR. This procedure protects our sheep and our clients' flocks.
We welcome discussion and your interest on how the Connewirricoo Merinos can fit into your breeding program.
Come and inspect these sheep. To contact us or make
